Barnier Public School installs SMART Board interactive whiteboards
Sydney primary school selects SMART product to enhance lesson delivery in all subjects across all grades
CALGARY, Alberta --- March 16, 2005 --- SMART Technologies Inc. and ELECTROBOARD Pty Ltd, SMART’s distributor in Australia, announce the installation of SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards at Barnier Public School. A primary school that integrates education technology with all subject areas, Barnier chose SMART products because they enhance lesson delivery and increase student engagement.
Simply by pressing on the interactive whiteboard's large, touch-sensitive surface, teachers use the SMART Board interactive whiteboards to access interactive lessons, Internet resources and digital materials to appeal to multiple learning styles. The SMART Board interactive whiteboards at Barnier are permanently mounted in kindergarten to year six classrooms. One interactive whiteboard is also installed in the school’s technology centre so teachers can practise with the product in order to discover all it has to offer.
“With SMART Board interactive whiteboards our teachers are able to serve individual student learning needs,” says Rod Gibbs, principal of Barnier Public School. “Once the bulk of the lesson is completed, the subsequent activities using the SMART Board interactive whiteboard allow students to consolidate their learning at a level suitable to them. Overall, SMART Board interactive whiteboards provide an environment for students to be explicitly taught how to maximise use of computers as a means of serving their purpose, to provide them with skills they’ll undoubtedly need in the future.”
“SMART Board interactive whiteboards are improving student learning and outcomes in more than 150,000 classrooms around the world,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s president and co-CEO. “Barnier Public School’s adoption of our product for teaching primary students ensures that they will have the IT-based learning and researching skills needed to achieve academic success in secondary and tertiary education.”
About SMART Board interactive whiteboards
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is a large, touch-sensitive display. Connected to a computer and projector, the interactive whiteboard is like a giant computer screen that students and teachers simply touch to operate. Using their finger as a mouse, teachers and students can access and control any computer application, file or multimedia platform, including the Internet, CD-ROMs and DVDs. They can also write over applications in digital ink, then save their work for future study and review. The SMART Board interactive whiteboard engages students with diverse learning styles by providing both immediate access to a wide range of digital materials and a common focus for the entire class – not something easily achieved with other technologies. It is the number one choice among primary and secondary school educators in more than 75 countries worldwide because the pioneering software interface captures the imagination of students of all backgrounds and abilities in order to help them learn together, understand better and achieve more.
